Animal Welfare Information Center (AWIC)

The Animal Welfare Information Center (AWIC) is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Library. It was established in 1986 (as mandated by  the Animal Welfare Act) to provide information for improving the care of animals used in research, testing, teaching and exhibition. Its browsable subjects include an "Alternatives" link, which provides information on "methods and sources available to reduce, refine or replace animals used in teaching, testing, and research." Other topics include Government and Professional Resources, Literature Searching and Databases, Pain and Distress, Humane Endpoints and Euthanasia. Animals are grouped by Research, Farm, Zoo, and Companion Animals.
